Talented musicians from Inner West high schools are joining forces for a major music program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
The Sydney Secondary College Instrumental Music Program will see students from Leichhardt, Balmain, and Blackwattle Bay secondary schools take part in performances ranging Jazz to Strings at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Verbrugghen Hall on September 9.
Joining high school students will be younger musicians from 14 local Primary School as part of a mentorship program by the SSC IMP.
“We are beyond excited for the upcoming weekend,” Secondary schools college principal TJ Catalanotto said.
“So far we have sold 400 tickets – which means we are practically sold out – which is great since we’ve never done anything like this before.
“You never know what could happen, so it’s great to see people in the community are as excited about (the event) as we are.”
Mr Catalanotto said the primary school “feeder” program was a great way to build connections between primary school students and their older peers at the three local high schools.
Musicians, including 13-year-old cello player Luka are keen to show off their skills.
“I’m just really excited to perform, play some music and have fun,” Luka said.
Violin player Skye is also keen to perform.
“It’s cool to see the different schools that have come together to perform and see how we all sound together,” he said.
“I can't wait to hear what we sound like this weekend, the Cello is a beautiful sound, and it will show on Saturday,” 12-year-old Otto said.
“I'm really excited about the piece we are playing,” Isla said.
“I really like the piece we are playing this weekend, I think it’s going to be great”Ida said.
“I Just can't wait to get on that stage and perform,” Skye said.
“Excited to see how we sound and perform in front of everyone,” Porter said.
