Sydney Fish Market: Crane collapses, one injured
A crane has collapsed at the under-construction Sydney Fish Market, sparking an evacuation of the site. One man has been taken to hospital with back injuries. Here is what we know.

Emergency services have raced to the Sydney Fish Market after a crane collapsed at the construction site in Pyrmont – leaving one person being treated for back injuries.
Police and multiple paramedics responded to reports the crane had collapsed at the corner of Pyrmont Bridge Rd and Bank St on Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses said an evacuation of the site was underway, with lane closures in place.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said multiple paramedics had responded to the scene, with a “man in his 30’s injured with suspected back injuries”.
The man is being driven to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Dozens of workers gathered outside the construction site on Thursday afternoon, as the site was evacuated.
Dom Graham, 74, was enjoying a drink and lunch when he witnessed the collapse of the crane.
“We saw the whole thing, I was having a sip of my beer and it started to fall over - then boom,” he said. “Everyone absolutely bolted out of the way you should have seen it, they were running in all directions.
“It was such a loud noise.”
The new Sydney Fish Market, which has resulted in more than 700 jobs during construction, is expected to open in 2024 as part of a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of the site.
“The NSW Government is reimagining our iconic site and the surrounding Bays Precinct, to create a Sydney Fish Market for the future with world-class facilities; Sydney’s most significant harbourside building since the Opera House,” a NSW Government representative said when the redevelopment was confirmed.

Get Fish operations manager, Carlos Hando, was on a break when he saw dozens of police and paramedics rush to the scene.
“All of a sudden, I saw a dozen cops sprint through the market with police and ambo cars everywhere,” the 25-year-old said.
“I walked out of the market to check out what was happening and I saw this massive crane had crushed through a construction site.”
