The developer of a new apartment complex in Sydney’s inner west has been ordered to stop all construction work at the site after the state’s building watchdog uncovered a series of faults relating to the development.
Fair Trading NSW issued a stop work order to developer Carlton Crescent Development Pty Ltd following an inspection of the development site at 106 Carlton Crescent, Summer Hill.
The stop work order came after a construction certificate – which allows development works to commence – was issued for the site in July.
But in September, authorised officers from Fair Trading discovered there were insufficient construction designs for the development uploaded on the NSW Planning Portal.
NSW Building Commissioner David Chandler, who issued the order last week, said structural engineering drawings for the development had also contained details which were “not relevant to the project”.
Mr Chandler ordered all building work at the site to stop by 5pm on October 16.
The order will remain in place until revoked by Fair Trading NSW.
Planning records show the $5.9m development was approved by Inner West Council in 2016 and underwent modifications which were approved by the council last year.
Demolition works have already commenced for the three storey development that once complete will include 16 apartments and basement carparking.
The development includes bulldozing a former warehouse building at the site, which was previously used as a storage site for Anglicare.
