Cricket will resume at parks and ovals across Sydney this weekend after competition was stopped prior to Christmas due to the coronavirus outbreak on the northern beaches.
However, it will be BYO food and drinks and limits on numbers in dressing rooms and indoor spaces with strict COVID safety measures back in place.
A meeting was held Monday night to discuss whether competition would resume this weekend as scheduled.
This includes the Kingsgrove Cup T20 Sixers Conference final between Gordon and UNSW at Chatswood Oval on Sunday, a game being live streamed at dailytelegraph.com.au
Bankstown and Parramatta are set to play in the other T20 match, also on Sunday.
Sydney’s summer of cricket became a victim of the COVID-19 cluster when all matches across the city were cancelled just prior to Christmas.
This included all NSW Premier cricket fixtures in the men’s, women’s and Shires competition.
“It’s all going ahead with COVID safety restrictions in place,” said Andrew Falk, deputy chairman of the Sydney Cricket Association.
Falk said QP codes will be used at matches, COVID safety officers will be in attendance and numbers restricted and social distancing enforced at games.
“It will be BYO lunches and drink bottles, that sort of thing,” he said.
Sydney University currently leads the Belvidere Cup from Manly Warringah, Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, St George and Fairfield Liverpool after eight rounds.
