GROWING up watching football on television, Strathfield twins Andrew and James Kim never thought they'd get a chance to represent Australia.

But that will become a reality when the pair play for the Australian Poweroos at the Asia Pacific Oceania Powerchair Football Zone Championship at Sydney Olympic Park from Thursday.

Powerchair football is similar to indoor football but for people with disabilities, where teams of four use modified electric wheelchairs to score goals within a 10km/h speed limit.

Andrew and James, 23, were selected for the national team after playing in this year's western Sydney competition.

"It's great being able to play a sport I didn't imagine I'd ever get to play," Andrew said.

James said he enjoyed the friendships he had made since he started playing the sport four years ago.

The Poweroos will compete against 2007 World Cup winners Japan and Singapore at the sports centre at Sydney Olympic Park, with the final on Saturday.

Rale Rasic, who guided the Socceroos to their first World Cup in 1974, will be an ambassador for the three-day tournament.

"When you see these guys play, the passion they show and how they meet the challenges put before them you start to wonder who has the disability them or us," said Rasic, who coached the Poweroos at the 2011 World Cup.

For Andrew and James the aim is to be part of the next World Cup in 2015.
