NEW Sydney University coach Tom Morrison will aim to develop the next generation of players for the North East AFL.
Morrison will coach Sydney University's premier division team in the Sydney AFL competition as the club looks to improve on a disappointing 2012 season.
With the students joining the NEAFL last season -- which includes AFL reverse grade sides -- the club struggled, winning just one game.
But Morrison, who has playing and coaching experience in Western Australia, has set his sights on helping develop the club's next crop of players.
Morrison, a friend of the club's high performance manager Tom Ayton, will focus on the development side of the game and provide guidance for players to step up to NEAFL level.
Club president Chas Wilkinson said: "It's a very strong resume for someone looking to promote an environment focused on player development.
"This developmental mentality is an outstanding fit for us as the club aims to become a player development partner to the AFL.''
Wilkinson said the club's focus was for under-18s and senior players to progress to the NEAFL and hopefully the AFL.
