Aaron Woods is ready to kick-off his season as Wests Tigers captain, in tonight’s clash with the Warriors

AARON WOODS may have filled in as captain before, but today he’ll carry a little more pressure — captaining his beloved Wests Tigers against the Warriors in round one at Campbelltown Stadium.

AARON WOODS has filled in as captain before for the Wests Tigers, but today he’ll carry a little bit of extra pressure — captaining his beloved Wests Tigers against the Warriors in round one at Campbelltown Stadium.

Woods is no fill-in skipper now, and all eyes will be on him to ensure his team of young cubs come together, follows coach Jason Taylor’s game-plan, and most importantly comes away with a result.

But the 24-year-old prop said that being the team’s captain is no extra pressure, and that it hasn’t changed his role in the team significantly.

“Me being captain hasn’t changed things around here at all,” he said.

“My role in the team is still the same, I just do a bit more talking now — before and after the games.”

Woods said that the team’s biggest hurdle would be consistency, and that he was hoping the side could get things off to a good start in tonight’s clash.

“There’s no point making bold predictions, but our biggest challenge is going to be consistency again this year,” he said.

“”That everyone’s already written us off (and is predicting we’ll get the wooden spoon) is good for us, we’ll definitely just let the results do the talking.

“The Warriors are going to be a good challenge, they’ve bought well — particularly with the likes of (Roger Tuivasa-) Sheck and Isaac (Luke), so playing them is going to be a good chance to show where we are at after the long pre-season we’ve had.”

It’s been a long pre-season indeed for last year’s second-from-last side, and Woods and his team will be hoping to put a lot of the off-season business behind them when they run out on to Campbelltown Stadium tonight.

“We just want to get out there and get a win,” Woods said.

“There’s been quite a few dramas happening around the club — at the end of last year, and in to the pre-season.

“All that’s behind us now though, and I think we just really need to let our results do the talking.”

Wests Tigers will take on the Warriors on Saturday at Campbelltown Stadium, from 5.30pm.
