RUSSELL LEA resident Sophia Chesworth is on her way to becoming the superstar she was born to be.
The 17-year-old from the Australian Performing Arts Grammar School in Glebe, has just released her first EP, titled Replay which will come out on Friday.
Sophia picked up the guitar not long after her 10th birthday, and at 12 -years -old started writing her own songs.
“Recording an EP had always been a goal of mine, when I knew I had songs I was happy with that really represented my style, I started listening to songs in the Australian country music scene that had been produced,” Sophia said.
“I had a few producers in mind, and I fell in love with Matt Fell’s work.”
Sophia spent a week in the Leichhardt studio with award-winning producer Matt Fell last August where she recorded her five-track EP. Sophia said the songs include themes of teenage life, love, insecurity and hopefulness. She has also just released her first music video for her track single.
Sophia will celebrate the launch of her EP on Sunday, February 24 at 2pm at the Royal Oak Balmain. Entry is free.
“The EP is a collection of songs I wrote about my life and things I have been through with my friends, anything that taught me something over the years,” she said.
She is about to start studying for her HSC but hopes to continue writing songs for her first album. The ultimate dream is to perform in Nashville, Tennessee.
