INNER west gymnast Michaela Whitehouse has set her sights on the Rio Olympics after winning gold in the rhythmic gymnastics at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.
Whitehouse, 14, scored 49.17 to put her ahead of silver medallist Xiaolan Xu (45.73) from China, and Malaysia's Iman Iskandar Chan (44.46) in bronze.
The gymnast from Strathfield's Meriden Rhythmic Gymnastics Centre performed well with the hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon at Sydney Olympic Park.
It was an impressive festival for Meriden, with the Australian gold team, which included Whitehouse and Anastasia Katharios, winning the team event.
Katharios (5th) and Rhiannon Choe (10th) also produced good results in the individual events.
Whitehouse said winning gold was an "overwhelming experience".
"Rio (in 2016) is always a possibility and definitely something I will be pushing towards," Whitehouse said.
