A sweet-talking fraudster has admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from a new flame he met through a dating app.
Rejwoan Chowdhury, 29, pleaded guilty to a string of fraud offences at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday after swindling over $7000 from a victim in Sydney’s inner west.
Chowdhury met the woman last September on a dating app Meet Me before the pair caught up for coffee and started hanging out.
The budding romance came crashing down when the victim realised her bank card was missing plus thousands of dollars from her bank account.
The agreed facts stated on 10 occasions between September 27 and October 4 Chowdhury stole money from the victim’s account without her knowledge.
On most occasions he would ask to use the victim’s phone to play some music, while they were spending time together, and he would transfer money into his own account or secretly set up cardless bank withdrawals.
Police later obtained CCTV footage of Chowdhury visiting ATMs in Redfern and Waterloo where he withdrew money from the victim’s account.
When the victim approached Chowdhury about her missing bank card he denied any wrongdoing.
“I don’t know what you’re f***ing talking about, you can search me. I don’t have to put up with this s***. I’m leaving,” he told the victim.
He was arrested following a police investigation and fronted court on Monday. He pleaded guilty to nine counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and asked for the matter to be finalised.
However, Magistrate Michael Allen noted it was a significant amount of money which included “systematic” fraud and a report must be prepared before he could be sentenced. Chowdhury will be sentenced in June.
