Police have issued a warning to residents of Annandale after noticing a spike in stolen bikes from homes across the area.
A Sergeant from Leichhardt Police Area Command said the majority of bikes stolen have been located on the front porch of homes.
He said it is the perfect spot for opportunistic offenders to “identify property that is accessible from the street,” he said.
“Offenders have been able to quickly cut locks and ride away in a matter of minutes.”
Police are urging residents to secure their bikes in areas that can’t be seen or accessed from the street.

“Try to secure your bike in a locked shed or inside your home if available space permits,” a NSW Police spokesman said.
“Owners of bikes should engrave their bicycle with a AV pen, micro dot or other permanent means with driver’s licence number or other unique and identifiable features.
“Always record the serial number, brand and model of your bicycle and take a photograph.”
The spokesman said by following these simple steps, police will be able to return a victim’s bike back to them if it is recovered.
