In an election pledge, Labor has committed to a new high school site in Sydney’s inner west.
The commitment, announced by Balmain candidate Philippa Scott and Shadow Education Minister Prue Carr, will cater to growing population across the Sydney Secondary College catchment. The college has existing campuses at Balmain, Leichhardt and Blackwattle Bay.
Ms Scott said Labor would, if elected, begin investigating a site for a future 7-10 campus this year. Community consultation would take place as part of the site selection process, to ensure he new site integrated with the existing Sydney Secondary College campuses.
“It’s fantastic to announce that Labor will deliver a new high school site in our local community,” Ms Scott said.
“I’ve been fighting for public education my entire life and today’s announcement will build an even stronger public education system in our area.
“Only a Labor Government can and will deliver a new public high school site.”
The election pledge builds on Labor’s commitment to creating two new public preschools in the Balmain electorate.
There is also further future growth scheduled for Blackwattle Bay through the redevelopment of the current Fish Markets site.
