Moses Succar, Zhane Thompson: Canterbury IED co-accuse front court

A baby-faced 19-year-old who is alleged to have detonated an IED outside a Sydney home can be pictured for the first time. He appeared in court alongside his electrician mate as fresh alleged details of the bomb attack were revealed.

Two men who were allegedly involved in the detonation of an IED outside a woman’s home in Sydney’s inner west which left her with serious burns have faced court.

A group of nine are before the courts for their alleged involvement in the incident in which an IED crudely make of aerosol cans and thumb tacks was detonated.

The bomb exploded at a home in Canterbury on June 8 and left Denise Lavell with serious burns to her body.

Zhane Thompson, 19, from Concord, charged with causing an explosive to explode with the intent to burn or cause harm stood quietly at the back of Burwood Local Court donning a navy suit.

Electrician Moses Succar, 19, who is facing the same charge, also had his matter heard for a brief mention where his lawyer said he had received the brief last Friday but said it was “incomplete.”

Police allege Succar used “butane canisters, sparklers and thumb tacks to explode with intent to burn and maim” Ms Lavell at her Canterbury home between 11.10pm and 11.40pm that night.

Police prosecutor Kellie Chessor asked for a six week adjournment which was granted.

Both Thompson and Succar will return to court on November 17.

Apprentice plumber Massimo Lombardo, who is alleged to have driven half a dozen of the co-accused to Coles and back to the Canterbury home where the bomb was allegedly placed, was granted bail at the Supreme Court yesterday.

The court previously heard that the IED was intended for another occupant in the Canterbury house after an alleged “drug rip.”

Lombardo will face Burwood Local Court on Thursday for mention.

All other co-accused are still before the courts.
