SON OF SCHOOL PRINCIPAL FACES COURT IN ALLEGED RAPE CASE

A private schoolboy accused of raping a young woman he met online will return to court next year after police finished compiling evidence.

He has been charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent after meeting a young woman on social media.

Police allege he went out for drinks with the young woman in the city before inviting her back to a friend’s house in Camperdown where she alleges she was sexually assaulted.

Cleary, whose father Tim is the former CEO of the Manly Sea Eagles and a private school principal, is not allowed to contact that friend as part of his bail as police consider him a witness to the incident.

He is also not allowed to enter the inner west suburb of Camperdown.

Crown prosecutor Miranda Scott told the court the Director of Public of Prosecutions had now received the brief of evidence outlining the police’s case against Cleary.

His last court hearing was told the DPP was waiting on an expert statement from a doctor outlining any alleged injuries the woman may or may not have sustained during the encounter to complete their evidence.

Cleary spent a night in the police cells at Newtown before he was granted bail in court the next day under strict conditions to remain at his family’s luxury Manly home.

His use of a phone is restricted, he has to report to police daily and is banned from consuming alcohol.

Cleary’s case will return to the Downing Centre Local Court in January.
