A high profile lawyer accused of acting as a drug ring middle man for his client is hoping to get his hands on a laptop behind bars to help plan his own defence.
Glebe legal eagle Martin Alan Churchill, 63, was arrested at his home in July.
His client is jailed murderer Bassam Hamzy.
Hamzy, who is serving time in Gouldburn Supermax, is being investigated over the execution style murder of teenager Brayden Dillon.
Churchill, whose charges include commercially supplying ice and knowingly participating in the activities of a criminal group, was allegedly part of a gang operating between Sydney and Wollongong in 2017 and 2018.
The case was briefly mentioned at Sydney Central Local Court on April 7 before Magistrate Robert Williams.
Magistrate Williams adjourned proceedings for eight weeks to allow for further case conferencing.
“I’ll put it over to the 5th of May,” Magistrate Williams said.
“I note there is correspondence from the other side (Churchill’s legal team) seeking a lengthier adjournment to get a laptop over to the accused but they can still continue to make those arrangements.”
Churchill did not apply for bail.
