Mohammad Ibrahim Ahmad: Man arrested after modified firearm, precursor chemicals found in ute at Concord

A modified firearm, ammunition and precursor chemicals believed to be used in the manufacture of illegal drugs have been seized from a ute in Sydney’s inner west following the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a modified firearm and precursor chemicals were found in a car in Sydney’s inner west.

Mohammad Ibrahim Ahmad, 32, of Concord, was charged with acquiring a prohibited firearm, prohibited drug supply, drug possession, acquiring ammunition, and hindering police in the execution of duty.

Documents tendered to Parramatta Local Court state Ahmad had a firearm and approximately 25 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition in contravention of a firearms prohibition order.

Police have charged him with the supply of 370mL of liquid methamphetamine, and allegedly found in his possession 1g of heroin and 10g of cannabis at the time of his arrest.

About 3.30pm on Wednesday, officers attached to the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad were patrolling Concord for a man wanted on an outstanding warrant when they observed Ahmad allegedly discard a car key and a small resealable bag onto a front lawn on Patterson St.

Officers approached and spoke to a 32-year-old man before attempting to arrest him. Police will allege Ahmad resisted arrest.

During a search of the surrounding area, police located Ahmad’s Volkswagen ute parked nearby. The vehicle was then searched, and officers found a modified firearm concealed inside a duffel bag, a firearm magazine, ammunition, and precursor chemicals believed to be used in the manufacture of illicit drugs.

All items were seized for further forensic examination.

Ahmad was taken to Burwood police station and charged with an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of an unauthorised firearm, along with six additional offences including acquire prohibited firearm and ammunition subject to prohibition order, supply commercial quantity prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, and resist police in execution of duty.

He was refused bail at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday with the matter to be next mentioned at Burwood Local Court on January 10.
