Luke Owens: Inner west Mongol bikie admits to bashing brother

Court documents have detailed how a wayward teen rose from petty offender to a fully patched Mongol. “Pimp” and “Alex White” are just two of the aliases he used.

Police arrest inner west Mongol bikie

An inner west bikie charged over bashing his own brother has racked up a multiple page criminal history during his association with the Mongols and gone under several aliases while on the radar of police, court documents state.

Luke Owens, who is a member of the inner west chapter of the Mongols, has admitted to assaulting his brother Shayden Owens at the Rydalmere Tavern last October in a public brawl that played out in front of shocked punters at the pokies.

Documents tendered to the Burwood Local Court this week after he pleaded guilty to assault detail Owens’ rise from youth offender to being a fully patched and tattooed member of the bikie gang which has wreaked havoc on Sydney.

Two counts of affray have been withdrawn.

His criminal history includes multiple counts assaulting police, affray, possessing a prescribed substance and supplying a small indictable amount of drugs in recent years.

Court documents also reveal Owens has used a number of aliases since first coming to the attention of police as a teen including “Pimp”, “Alex White” and “Luke Glide Cardinaels-Owens”.

It was only last year, however, that he came to the attention of the police’s bikie-busting unit Strike Force Raptor.

The same documents state police believed he should be denied bail as they consider him a “violent” individual and feared for the safety of the public.

They also reveal in a different criminal case last year officers had attempted “covert” methods of attempting to locate Owens who was on the run after a man was allegedly bashed and had his man-bag stolen in Five Dock.

Detectives had been searching for Owens for six weeks, according to the documents, believing he was actively avoiding arrest.

The Tavern bust-up with his brother Shayden, a fellow Mongols member also charged with affray over the brawl, involved them both throwing punches and wrestling on the floor before security, two female staff and bystanders stepped between the large men.

Shayden is also facing charges of dealing with proceeds of crime steroid possession after a raid on his Rhodes unit.

According to the police statement of facts, Shayden paced back and forth between the pokie machine his brother was playing, bounced up and down on the balls of his feet before lunging at Luke who stood up and punched him in the face.

The facts go on to state Shayden again begins bouncing on his feet, lifts up his shorts before allegedly lunging forward and punching Luke in the face.

Shayden has yet to enter a plea to his charge of affray and will front Burwood Local Court over the incident at a later date.

Luke will front the same court later this year where he will be sentenced after pleading guilty to common assault.
