Inner West COVID-19: Great Ocean Foods cluster grows to 19

More venues and transport routes across the inner west are now coronavirus hotspots as another case has been confirmed in the Marrickville Great Ocean Foods cluster.

Greater Sydney thrown into two week lockdown

More venues and public transport routes across the inner west have been listed as coronavirus hot spots as medicos confirmed an additional case stemming from the Marrickville cluster.

NSW Health said one person has been diagnosed with coronavirus in the last 24 hours to 8pm last night as a result of a growing cluster at Great Ocean Foods Marrickville.

The wholesaler was one of the most serious venue alerts this past weekend after altering the public anyone who had been there last week, received a delivery and their household contacts needed to self isolate and get tested.

The cluster remains at 19 after a case previously linked to the wholesaler has now been linked to the Crossways Hotel in Strathfield South.

It comes as NSW recorded 22 cases of the virus overnight, with one late case coming after the 8pm cut off a concern to authorities.

The case in question is a student nurse who worked while infectious on several wards, which are now in lockdown.

The 24-year-old female student nurse worked while infectious in a rehabilitation ward at Fairfield and cardiology and abdominal surgery wards at Royal North Shore Hospital.

“Contract tracers immediately swung into action,” Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said.

“The wards where that nurse worked are now locked down and we have followed up any patients that have been discharged from that ward as well as testing any staff that have been in contact.”

TUESDAY JUNE 30

Three new cases have been confirmed overnight stemming from a growing cluster in Marrickville.

The new cases are part of the Great Ocean Foods wholesaler in the suburb which has sparked a total of 19 cases to date.

Anyone, including their household contacts, who visited or received a delivery from the wholesaler last week needs to get tested and isolate.

Several venues across the inner west have now been listed as points of potential coronavirus transmission as cases are expected to continue to climb today.

The suburbs of Marrickville, Five Dock, Drummoyne, Haberfield, Rodd Point and Sydenham are all impacted after health authorities confirmed the movements of a confirmed case last week.

As well as the public transport routes NSW Health has also warned anyone how attended Karl’s Charcoal Chicken in Marrickville on June 23 between 12.10pm to 12.30pm is a close contact and must immediately self isolate for 14 days and get tested.

It comes as the state recorded 19 new cases in the last 24 hours from 67,000 tests, all but two are linked to an existing cluster.

MONDAY JUNE 28

Five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed stemming from a fast growing cluster at a Marrickville seafood wholesaler.

NSW Health confirmed on Monday morning the cluster has now grown to 16 after one of the most serious venue alerts was issued by medicos on the weekend.

Anyone – including their household contacts – who attended or received a delivery from Great Ocean Foods Marrickville from June 21 to June 25 has to get tested and isolate.

It comes as NSW reported 18 cases on the second day of lockdown yesterday and all but one of them is linked to the existing cluster.

15 of them are linked to the Bondi cluster but the one unlinked case is in the same geographical area and the link is now being investigated.

About six of the newly identified cases were already in isolation for part of their infectious periods.

“We are seeing almost 100 per cent transmission in households and a very high rate of transmissibility,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“Make sure you get tested and isolate for 14 days if you’re deemed to be a close contact, it’s really, really important.”

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant, on the weekend, said the new Delta strain of the virus that plunged greater Sydney into lockdown was twice as more transmissible as the original variant.

As part of this morning’s update NSW Health has also issued an alert for anyone who travelled on an inner west train on June 19.

Anyone who boarded the T2 Inner West and Leppington Line from Central Station platform 11 from 5.37pm and travelled between Glenfield station platform 3 at 6.38pm should self isolate and get tested until they return a negative result.
