Hugh fever hit Sydney today with Hugh Jackman greeting fans at Circular Quay following the announcement that he his taking songs from his smash hit movie The Greatest Showman on the road with the Australian leg of his The Man. The Music. The Show World Tour.
Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman was at the centre of the announcement that the Australian leg of his The Man. The Music. The Show World Tour would start in August this year, with Jackman singing the title song, ‘The Greatest Showman’ and fellow Greatest Showman cast member Keala Settle joining the stage to sing the Golden Globe-winning song ‘This I Me’ from the movie.
Settle joins the Australian leg of the tour, that kicks-off at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on August 2 before travelling to Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
Jackman said his new show would feature the songs from The Greatest Showman but there would also be songs his 2012 musical drama film Les Miserables as well as from Broadway and films, accompanied by a live orchestra.
Jackman said he always loves the connection to the audience a live show gives him but to be able to add the songs from The Greatest Showman was something he was excited about.
“Just to be clear it is not all The Greatest Showman but there are a bunch of songs from that film,” Jackman said.
He said the The Greatest Showman music had captured the imagination of a lot of people.
’Like at the Brit Awards, when you are there, and there is 15,000 people all singing in sych it is an incredible privilege, I pinch myself every day,” Jackman said. “I never thought in a million years this would happen.”
The all-singing, all-dancing Jackman kept the humour up at today’s announcement promising no songs from Wolverine.
“No, I have tried and I will keep trying to get a Wolverine kickline into the repertoire,” Jackman joked.
“One of the feelings I love when I go and see a show is that feeling of something happened tonight that could not happen anywhere else or on any other night.”
The star of film and stage said he feels most at home in front of a live audience.
Before I go out on stage I always stand in the wings, just hearing that live chatter of people getting ready and the anticipation, reminds me of some of the best times of my life,” he said. “I absolutely love it.”
