Joanna Brooke from the Avocado Smash is bringing a zesty, new show to the Sydney Fringe Festival’s kid’s hub at the Australian Actors Centre in Leichhardt on Saturday.
Brooke said Avocado Smash, a children’s group trio that includes Su Choung and Fatima Fabia, drew inspiration from across the globe with songs like “Snap Goes the Gecko”, incorporating Bahasa Indonesia, and “I Like to Eat Rice with My Hands”, which looks at how different cultures enjoy food.
“We sing about the world around us, and it’s an inclusive, diverse and wonderful one,” she said. “As performers, we each bring something different to the show.
“Su is a concert pianist and opera repetiteur, Fatima is a salsa, dancehall and hip-hop dancer, and I’m a classical singer and music educator. All together our shows are energetic, fun and relevant. We sing about topics that all kids experience.”
Brooke, a former Dulwich Hill Performing Arts School student, said Avocado Smash delivered a musical bonanza; “Catchy original tunes, world dance moves, fun creative stories and a whole lot of silliness - our Sydney Fringe show transforms our songs into a theatrical journey that’s not to be missed”.
The show, at the Actors Centre Australia (ACA), Leichhardt on September 21 at 10am and September 29 at 2pm is perfect for children aged 0 - 7 years and all those young at heart. Tickets facebook.com/events/actors-centre-australia
