THIS former dump in Leichhardt has been transformed into a chic modern home and is set to sell for double its purchase price.

A FORMER dilapidated house in Leichhardt that has been transformed into a chic and modern home is set to sell for double its purchase price.

The four-bedroom house at 80 Edith St is listed with McGrath Inner West with a price guide of $1.9 million to $2.05 million.

When the vendors bought the 278sq m property two years ago, they paid $980,000.

The original timber workers cottage had been vacant for 20 years and had deteriorated to the point that the front deck had rotted away and the walls had disintegrated.

Since their purchase, the vendors have created a new residence set over two levels.

An extension was built at the rear and another floor added.

There are open-plan interiors that flow out to an entertainment deck with lawn and swimming pool.

Listing agent Danielle Dewhurst said nearly 100 groups had seen the property during the campaign.

“Buyers have been young families looking for a decent sized house which is hard to find in Leichhardt,” Ms Dewhurst said.

“There were a lot of people that followed the building process.”

The home goes to auction next Saturday at 11.15am.
