Students at Trinity Grammar School in Sydney’s inner west are set to benefit from a $115 million redevelopment of facilities — including plans for a new five-storey education and library precinct and new performing arts centre.
The multimillion-dollar redevelopment is on public exhibition until June 3 via the NSW Planning Department’s major projects website.
The project includes the demolition of school-owned residential facilities on the grounds alongside plans for major upgrades to existing teaching spaces.
A planner for the Summer Hill school said the project aimed to create a “high-quality teaching and learning environment for staff and students” and would increase availability of educational space.
“Overall, the proposed built form ... provides a framework for the future physical development of the campus to ensure the best teaching and learning outcomes, and ongoing evolution of the school,” the planner told the department.
Plans also forecast the creation of a series of “iconic outdoor spaces”, as well as a massive multipurpose pavilion between two of the school ovals to offer increased indoor recreational facilities.
The planner also revealed the new performing arts space will centralise all arts activities into one precinct.
The redevelopment plans will see the schools capacity increase by 445 students to a total population of 2100, while staff numbers will also increase to 321 full time roles.
“Over the last 106 years, the school has earned a reputation for excellent all-round education,” the planner said. “Now, however, the time has now come for the school to renew many of its facilities, as they are becoming less functional and fit for purpose.
“The renewal project is focused on ensuring the school’s teaching and learning spaces can
respond to the challenges of the 21st century, it also creates an opportunity for the school to offer more boys a Trinity education.”
