Burwood Council has unveiled its grand plans for upgrades to the Enfield Aquatic Centre with a virtual tour around the reimagined facility.
As part of the plans, a new 25 metre pool is set to be installed following a surge in demand from the community.
A viewing platform for parents will also form part of the works, with council committing $2.2 million to the centre this financial year.
"Swimming is an important life skill, and it's great exercise," mayor John Faker said.
"We want to make sure our residents have the opportunity to enjoy the water close to home."
The virtual animation takes you around the new facility, giving a bird’s eye view of the upgrades, before moving inside to take a sneak peek at the new and improved indoor pool and other facilities at the Enfield Aquatic Centre.
The plans will have to go to the Burwood Local Planning Panel and, if approved, council expects the works to be completed next year.
However, further works for the Enfield Aquatic Centre are also on the cards, with council flagging plans to provide a new multipurpose exercise room, an improved reception area and more parking.
Those upgrades are likely to come within the next few years, a council spokesman said.
The current plans will also benefit users of the 50 metre pool, the oldest in Sydney and built in 1933, with shading to be provided to enjoy the sun and relax.
