Coronavirus: 91 cases in the inner west, Canterbury Bankstown

Cases have surged in Sydney’s inner west over the past 24 hours, with more than 20 new infections. And for the first time we can pinpoint how many cases are in each local council area.

Ninety one confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the local health district taking in Sydney’s inner west and parts of Canterbury Bankstown.
The figure has risen by 26 cases from yesterday.
NSW Health statistics reveal 7033 people have been tested in the Sydney Local Health District which takes in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown, Canterbury Hospital, Balmain Hospital and Concord Hospital.

The latest stats reveal the 91 confirmed cases came from 7033 tests resulting in a positive test percentage of 1.29 per cent.

The positive percentage equates to 13.06 cases per 100,000 residents and 1009 tests per 100,000 residents.
The number of positive results is relatively low compared to other areas of Sydney.
For the first time, the number of cases in each council area can be revealed.
The Inner West LGA has 28 cases, Canada Bay has six while both Strathfield and Burwood have recorded between one and four each.

Neighbouring Canterbury Bankstown had 41 cases.

For areas with fewer than five cases NSW Health gives a range figure.

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, which includes the eastern suburbs and down to the Sutherland Shire, has 319 cases with 33.26 cases per 100,000 residents.
Northern Sydney which includes the north shore and northern beaches has 247 cases with 25.84 per 100,000 while the Hunter New England district, which includes Newcastle, has 117 cases at 12.28.
The Central Coast has 49 cases, South Western Sydney has 88, while Western Sydney has 98 at 7.78.
The only health district in NSW without any cases is the Far West district which takes in Broken Hill and surrounds.
