Canada Bay author Alexia Paglia’s new book ‘My Strong Heart’ skyrockets to Amazon number one seller

A Sydney author has made waves with the Amazon best-seller list with her educational book ‘My Strong Heart’. Read her story.

An inner-city author has inked her way to number one with a new educational book – with teachers claiming it can “inspire the next generation of scientist”.

New author Alexia Paglia, 23, has already swept the number one spot on Amazon after her book ‘My Strong Heart’ went live, claiming the title for best children’s books biology and hot new releases.

Over two years, Ms Paglia dedicated her time to writing a book that she thought could inspire curiosity for science and health within children after seeing the impact it could have when taught at an early age.

“Working in the hospital systems in clinical trials I saw that people didn't really understand the ins and outs of their bodies,” she said.

“I’ve tutored primary and high school kids for six years and I remember one of the kids could tell me how the digestive system of a cow works but couldn’t tell me how their own bodies functions.”

My Strong heart is a science and health focused children’s book, targeted at readers aged three to eight and follows a dog – Dr Zig Zaccy Zoo – who discover the basic anatomy and physiology of the human heart.

Young scientists Luca and Lex they learn about healthy behaviours, which Local Canada Bay teacher Stefanie Giunta, believes “every school must have.”

“Being a teacher and ex librarian, I know that these are books we actually need in our library, ones that we can actually promote in class on health literacy,” she said.

“She’s really thought about the audience and how she can engage these young readers, the rhythmic flow of the story captivates the student's attention and enables them to remember what they’ve read.”

The book has already attracted notoriety, securing number one bestseller on Amazon and has deputy Mayor Stephanie Di Pasqua claiming it could find its way into schools across the area.

“It is inspiring to see a local woman use her passion for medical research in a way that helps young Australians to learn about healthy habits,” she said.

“If the book is successful there could be a conversation about sharing it in primary schools and libraries for young people to access information about heart health.”

Hoping to pursue a career in Medicine, Ms Paglia has also attracted the approval of the medical world with cardiologist Dr Henry Paoloni, giving his backing on the book.

“This well-timed and well-illustrated book directed to the younger generation is an excellent introduction to the fascinating world of the heart,” he said.
