A man has been charged following an investigation into a horrific multi-vehicle crash which left a 19-year-old driver dead. Warning: Distressing images.

Horrific fatal crash in Enfield

A Campsie man has been charged following an investigation into a horrific multi-vehicle collision in Sydney’s inner west which claimed the life of one 19-year-old driver.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Coronation Pd and Wynnstay Ave, Enfield, about 9:40am on Saturday April 9 2022 following reports of a four-vehicle crash.

Staff from Enfield Produce and Pet Supplies heard two “loud, deafening bangs” and ran outside to help.

Manager of the store Todd said five of his staff members pulled people from three of the four cars involved in the crash.

A 19-year-old Blakehurst man died at the scene after his Volkswagen Polo hatchback was involved in the crash with a grey Audi Q7 SUV, a silver Toyota Aurion sedan, and a white Toyota Hilux utility.

The driver of the SUV, a 45-year-old Belmore man, and his passenger, an eight-year-old boy were taken to Westmead Hospital.

A 33-year-old Campsie woman driving the sedan was also taken to Westmead and the driver of the utility, a 26-year-old Mortdale man, was taken to St George Hospital.

A crime scene, established by police officers from Burwood Police Area Command, was examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision was launched.

Following inquiries, police officers arrested a 45-year-old Campsie man yesterday, on Tuesday August 30.

The 45-year-old was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with aggravated dangerous driving resulting in death, speeding resulting in death, dangerous driving (manner) occasioning death, negligent driving resulting in death and street racing.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday October 11.
