A new pedestrian bridge has been installed as part of a $10 million plan to upgrade Burwood Library.

The link bridge connects the library and community hub at 2 Conder St with what will be new multipurpose spaces at 8 Conder St for a range of community activities, including art exhibits and music practice.

Mayor John Faker said the bridge installation was an exciting sign of the community complex to come.

“I can’t wait to see people walking across the bridge between the library and our new community spaces,” he said.

“The community spaces will be flexible with maker spaces, 3D printing, an indoor garden for author talks or music events, and other uses.”

The library facelift, which will provide more space and better digital technology, and the new community spaces are part of council’s multimillion-dollar investment.

Council staff will share the 8 Conder St premises and move offices next year.
