One of Sydney’s top bikies has been charged by police over allegations he attempted to pervert the course of justice while before the courts two years ago.
Sergeant-at-Arms of the Sydney chapter of the Comancheros Tarek Zahed, 39, is alleged to have provided false affidavits while facing charges related to stealing and driving offences in 2018.
Zahed, from Concord in Sydney’s inner west, is considered a top figure in the organisation with strong links to the gang’s exiled boss Mark Buddle.
Buddle is believed to be in hiding overseas and just last month police announced he was a person of interest in the 2010 shooting of cash-in-transit guard Gary Allibon.
The charges relate to Zahed allegedly providing false information to the courts in January and May last year while facing the driving and stealing charges.
Zahed was living in Mortlake at the time of those alleged offences.
Zahed, who is currently on remand at Bathurst Correctional Centre, was charged with three counts of intending to pervert the course of justice and one of willfully swearing a false affidavit in April.
He was charged after a lengthy investigation by Strike Force Raptor detectives, the crack unit of officers within the NSW Police targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Zahed, a father of two, appeared in the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday where his matter was briefly heard.
His case has been adjourned to be heard at the same court later this year.
