Beers now on the menu at Dulwich Hill’s Sausage Factory

Bratwurst and brews? If snags and schooners are your thing, then there’s a hidden gem in the inner west that is brewing up a storm.

Something’s brewing in Dulwich Hill, and it smells like bratwurst and kabanas.

However, soon to accompany those essences at New Canterbury Rd’s Sausage Factory will be the scent of hops and barley, with Chrissy Flanagan’s brainchild now to be the home of its own brewing operations.

The bubbly inner-westie has been “gypsy brewing” for a year at a friend’s place and is now hoping to push the combo of bangers and beers to the limits.

But she is warning customers not to expect the wurst from her crazy Sausage Queen beer concoctions.

“We’re really going to be pushing the boat out with crazy beers you can’t find anywhere else,” Ms Flanagan said.

“We’re not interested in traditional lagers, we’re doing big crazy things with native herbs and spices.

“Sometimes we’ll use the same ingredients in the sausages as we do in the beers.”

Describing the restaurant as the “home of the one-two punch of beers and sausages” with gusto, Ms Flanagan recalls how the sausage fest began four years ago.

Two years later the Sausage Factory was born and today it claims to being the inner west home of bangers and beers.

“It’s a pretty heavy combo,” Ms Flanagan said.

“When we first opened we really didn’t have a tonne of beers, we loved them, and it really is a natural combo (sausages and brews) with a lot of demand from people walking in and asking ‘what’s this obscure place’.

“Our most popular beer is the Kiwi Love Triangle – it’s a beer made with three different hops by our brewer who made it in tribute to our manager who is polyamorous which is incredibly sweet.”
