Art Month has taken over Sydney offering the chance to peek behind the doors of a world full of colour and creativity.

Art Month has it all, from a hands-on workshop at Glebe’s kil.n.it ceramics studio on March 21 and an edible adventure at Chippendale’s Galerie pompom on March 26 offering an eight course vegetarian menu and the chance to learn about Nancy Constandelia’s current exhibition and her residency in Paris.

Duckrabbit gallery owner and artist Hugh Ramage said Art Month was important as another way of highlighting the importance of Sydney’s vibrant arts community.

“It’s great that the public can go into studios, talk with artists and break down some of the myths about art-making. Really, it’s all about the conversations,” he said.

He said the biggest myth about the art world was that art was a luxury item most people could not afford.

“At Duckrabbit we welcome everybody and stress that there is no secret knowledge necessary to appreciate art, all you need do is be prepared to look and to feel something,” he said

“There is no right or wrong way to approach art. As far as collecting goes, works on paper are a great and affordable way to start collecting.”

In terms of the biggest trend in art world now Ramage said:

“I think we are a now at a particular historic moment where radical systemic change is not only necessary but overdue.

“Artists need to be a part of this both in their work and by getting out into the streets. Having said this, there’s nothing less interesting than overly didactic art so it’s a fine line to tread”.

As part of Art Month Duckrabbit is hosting Spirit Within, an exhibition of new works by Jason Wing and Maddison Gibbs from March 17 - 22.
