2024 Logies: Young actor Ava Caryofyllis nominated for the Graham Kennedy Award

One of Australia’s brightest young actors from Sydney’s inner west is set to shine at her first Logies where she is nominated for most outstanding newcomer.

One of Australia’s brightest young actors is hoping to join the ranks of iconic names by winning a Logie at the age of 13.

Ava Caryofyllis has already starred in Hollywood blockbusters and hopes to take out the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding Newcomer at the 2024 Logies on Sunday.

Hailing from Five Dock, the young prodigy has appeared alongside famous actors – playing a young Natalie Portman in the new Thor movie, Kate and Bay of Fires, which is the role that earned her the nomination.

Speaking to the Inner West Courier, Ava said when she started her acting journey at the age of five for “fun” she didn’t dream it would lead her to Australia’s biggest awards night.

“It never even crossed my mind, I couldn't believe it and it was just such a crazy thing to me that it happened,” she said.

“I always acted for fun, and now this has happened, it’s all so surreal.

“It’s a close race, everyone can get it because I’m against so many amazing actors and actors. I think it could go to anyone but just being nominated is amazing.”

To help prepare for the event, another inner west local, celebrity dress designer Nicky Velani has been working with Ava in the lead up to the Logies.

Working out of Five Dock for the last 30-years – fitting the likes of Delta Goodrem and Rebel Wilson – it’s a local match made in heaven and Ms Velani is ecstatic to see Ava have her moment in the spotlight.

“It’s her first carpet moment and she will look back at this experience and I just really want that to be a beautiful core memory for her,” she said.

“As she grows up I hope she can look back and for her to feel special that someone cared enough for her to make her look so beautiful.”

The pair has forged a close friendship with Ava saying Ms Velani was “the kindest lady”.

“It’s been absolutely amazing to work with her, she’s so fun and nice and just going in and trying on the dress has been beautiful and so is the dress,” Ava said.

“I’m just so happy that I’m getting to work with her.”
