An Illawarra teenager is recovering in hospital, after impaling his leg on a fence at a popular Wollongong nightclub on Saturday night.
Police, Fire and Rescue NSW and three NSW Ambulance crews were called to Mr Crown on Crown Street just after 1am on Sunday morning, after receiving reports a man was stuck on a fence after impaling his leg.
When crews arrived, they found the man hanging over the top of the fence, with a paling stuck right through his leg.
Witnesses say the gruesome injury occurred after the teen tried to jump a fence to re-enter the venue after being kicked out.
According to a NSW Police spokesman, officers from Fire and Rescue NSW used the jaws of life to cut the fence, leaving a small portion of the fence impaled in the man’s thigh.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he was then flown to St George Hospital with significant lacerations to his left leg.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said despite the horrific injury, the man was in a stable condition when transported to Sydney.
It’s understood the teen is still in hospital, where he is recovering.
