Teen charged over motorbike chase with police before Lake Heights crash

A teenage boy is accused of leading police on a high-speed pursuit, travelling at double the speed limit on an unregistered motorbike before colliding with another car.

A teenage motorcyclist is accused of leading police on a chase, reaching speeds of double the signposted speed limit on an unregistered motorbike before colliding with another car.

On Monday morning police unsuccessfully attempted to stop the rider of an unregistered motorbike at Northcliff Drive in Berkley, with a pursuit sparked when the rider allegedly failed to stop.

Police were forced to cease the pursuit for safety reasons, with the 17-year-old boy reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, it will be alleged in court.

A short time later the rider collided with a car on Flagstaff Rd in Lake Heights.

The driver of the other vehicle, and his two-year-old passenger, escaped injury.

The teen was treated by paramedics for leg injuries before being taken to hospital under police guard.

He has since been released and was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged.

The teen was refused bail and will appear in a children’s court today charged with police pursuit drive recklessly, never licensed person drive on road, use registered Class A motor vehicle, use insured motor vehicle and posses prohibited drug.
