A young girl and two adults were threatened with a gun and sledgehammers and a shot was fired during an early morning home invasion in Warilla this morning.
About 2.15am on Monday morning, police were called to a unit on Sparta Street, after reports three men armed with sledgehammers forced entry into the home.
Police have been told the men demanded cash, before producing a firearm and threatening the two occupants and a seven-year-old girl.
As the men left the premises, a 38-year-old male occupant gave chase, and a shot was fired back in his direction.
The bullet missed the man and struck a metal screen door.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended a short time later and established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined.
No one was physically injured as a result of the incident; which police believe was targeted.
As investigations continue, detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
