Dimity Quinlan in court charged after 16-year-old boy dies in bike collision

A young Shellharbour woman’s case has been mentioned in court for the first time after she allegedly hit and killed a 16-year-old bike rider earlier this year.

The identity of a 25-year-old Shellharbour woman charged over the death of a teenage bike rider has been revealed in court.

Dimity Quinlan was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, not stop at stop line at yellow light, and exceed speed limit by less than 20km/h in March, after a 16-year-old boy was allegedly struck by her sedan on February 11.

The 25-year-old’s case was mentioned for the first time in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday, after she was charged by investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Police will allege the boy was riding his bike across Wattle Road at Blackbutt around 6pm when he was struck by Quinlan’s sedan.

He sustained head and chest injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene, before being flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.

Quinlan was not injured in the collision and participated in mandatory blood and urine testing.

Following inquiries she was charged just over a month later and had her license suspended.

She will return to Wollongong Local Court in July.
