An Illawarra man is back behind bars following allegations he raped and assaulted a woman.

Dalibor Bubanja was arrested on September 29, and charged with 12 offences over allegations he raped and assaulted a woman at Shell Cove on several occasions between May and September 5. He is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to a second woman in September.

Bubanja, 34, who is currently serving a balance of parole, was arrested by detectives from Lake Illawarra Police Station September 29, over the fresh allegations of rape and assault.

According to court documents, Bubanja has been charged with common assault, two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally or recklessly damage property, intentionally choke person, cause grievous bodily harm with intent, reckless grievous bodily harm, and two counts of stalk/intimidate.

It’s alleged each of the incidents occurred at Shell Cove, where Bubanja resides.

His case was briefly mentioned at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday, where it was adjourned for one week.

He was formally refused bail to reappear next Wednesday.

Outside court, Bubanja’s lawyer Abbas Soukie said his client would be defending the allegations “vigorously”.

“Mr Bubanja unequivocally rejects the allegations giving rise to these charges,” he said.

“The allegations are baseless, lack any evidentiary foundation and will be defended vigorously”.
