An Illawarra police officer allegedly altered timesheets to fraudulently obtain thousands of dollars, a court has heard.

NSW Police sergeant Renee Sharman appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday a month on from being charged with making a false document and six counts of using a false document.

The 49-year-old Illawarra woman pleaded not guilty to all seven charges with the matter to be mentioned in February ahead of a hearing later this year.

The alleged misconduct was unearthed by Strike Force Gingham which was established by the Professional Standards Command in February, 2022.

The strike force was set up to investigate reports of misconduct by Sharman alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Following inquiries, Sharman was charged and issued the court attendance notices.

Documents tendered in court state the alleged offending started in October 2021, when Sharman is alleged to have created a false document.

It is alleged she used the document six times in the following months to obtain a financial advantage of more than $6300.

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed Sharman “remains on full duties”.
