Remzi Bektasovski: Illawarra DJ stands trial over alleged sexual assault of three teenage girls

A young DJ allegedly sexually assaulted three teen girls, with one of them telling a court he left her “bruised” and in tears.

A young woman has told a court she was left in tears and with bruises on her body after she was allegedly raped by an Illawarra DJ in the bedroom of her family home.

Remzi Bektasovski, 22, faced the first day of trial in the NSW District on Monday, where he formally pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual intercourse without consent, assault with act of indecency and aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm, following the alleged sexual assaults of three teen girls in 2016 and 2017.

Mr Bektasovski looked at his feet and shook his head as Crown prosecutor Michael Fox told the jury the 22-year-old had sexually assaulted the three girls, despite each of them allegedly refusing his advances.

“You need to look at the accused’s state of mind,” Mr Fox said. “The state of mind he had been in to have sexual intercourse with young women regardless of what they were saying, what they were resisting and their unwillingness,” he said.

The Crown alleged the first girl was sexually assaulted at her home in late 2016, after attending Mr Bektasovski’s 18th birthday and talking to him on social media.

In giving evidence on Monday, the girl told the court she and Mr Bektasovski began kissing in her bedroom after school one afternoon, but that she stopped and went to the bathroom after things “didn’t feel right”.

“He started to become really aggressive … He was kissing forcefully … it didn’t feel right”, she said.

The girl told the court while she was in the bathroom she convinced herself she was “overthinking” things and “being irrational” and returned to the bedroom where Bektasovski was waiting.

She told the court she got back on the bed, when Mr Bektasovski began hovering over her and “gripping her shoulders”.

“It hurt immensely,” she said. “Enough that it left bruises”.

She told the court she began telling Mr Bektasovski to stop but that he kept repeating “it’s OK” before “shoving” his penis inside of her.

“I went quiet … I didn’t know what to do because I couldn’t do anything,” she said,

She said that when he finished he pulled his pants up while “smirking”, before she told him to “f**ck off”.

“I was upset, I was on the verge of breaking down, I sat up on my bed … I pulled my pants up made sure he’d left and locked the door,” she said.

“Then I got in the shower, scrubbed myself until I was red raw and cried and cried,” she told the court.

In giving evidence she told the jury she sent Mr Bektasovski a message the next day saying “dude you raped me”, before he responded “it was OK, it was like last time”- referring to a previous occasion in which they’d had consensual sex.

It’s the Crown case the second girl was allegedly assaulted in her home between February 1 and 2, 2017, after Mr Bektasovski told her he was coming over, despite her texting him “wtf no”.

When he arrived, it’s alleged he laid the girl on the bed, despite her telling him she didn’t want to have sex.

Mr Fox said he put his penis into the girl “without telling her” after pulling her underwear to the side. It’s alleged that when he finished, Mr Bektasovski put his shoes on and told the girl “I knew you would enjoy it if I force you”.

The court heard the third teen was allegedly assaulted in Mr Bektasovski’s home despite allegedly telling him she didn’t want to have sex “multiple times”.

In his opening remarks to the jury, Mr Bektasovski’s defence barrister Matthew Johnson told the court there was no dispute Mr Bektasovski had sex with the teens, but that each occasion was consensual.

Mr Johnson will cross-examine the first woman on Tuesday morning. The trial continues.
