An Illawarra DJ and martial arts instructor convicted of sexually assaulting a young woman when he was a teenager has had a further two charges laid against him while behind bars.

Remzi Bektasovski was jailed for five years and six months in the Wollongong District Court by Judge Andrew Heasler in March, with a non-parole period of three years and four months.

Since then, a further two charges of sexual assault concerning an unrelated matter have been laid on the 23-year-old, who is serving his sentence at South Coast Correctional Centre.

Bektasovski was found guilty of three charges relating to the rape of the teenager by a majority jury verdict in January, including sexual assault without consent and assault with act of indecency.

The jury found Bektasovski sexually assaulted the teen girl in his family home on an afternoon in February 2017, after he agreed to help her with an IT issue.

During the trial, the court heard Bektasovski began trying to force the teen to kiss him while they were on a bed, before she said she was coerced into performing oral sex on him.

In her evidence, the girl told the court Bektasovski raped her in an adjacent laundry room, after forcefully trying to pull her underwear off.

Bektasovski maintained his innocence at trial, saying she initiated the sexual encounter.

He kept his head down as the victim spoke in court, and shook his head as Judge Haesler handed down his sentence.

During sentencing, Judge Haesler said he “appears to have no idea of the damage he caused” the young woman and her family.

The 22-year-old is due back in the local court on May 26 and will be eligible for release to parole in May 2024.
