Police officer ‘lands’ in Dapto cannabis crop after alleged pursuit

A police officer quite literally stumbled upon an alleged cannabis crop, after jumping a fence and landing in it.

Police have allegedly uncovered a 14-plant cannabis crop out the back of a Dapto home, after a police pursuit through the area led them to the discovery on Tuesday morning.

An officer quite literally stumbled upon the crop, after jumping a fence and landing in it while trying to apprehend a 34-year-old man.

According to police, the crop was discovered after officers attempted to stop a White Subaru Impreza in Koonawarra for the purposes of a vehicle search around 11am on Tuesday.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

Following a brief chase, the Subaru pulled into a driveway on Wyndarra Way, Koonawarra, where the male driver and female passenger allegedly fled from the vehicle.

Police followed the driver over a fence and landed in a cannabis crop. Police allegedly seized 14 plants, before arresting the resident, a 41-year-old man and issuing him a future court attendance notice for cultivate prohibited plant.

The driver of the vehicle was also arrested at the scene and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit, unlicensed driver – never held, affix false/misleading plates, use unregistered motor vehicle and use uninsured motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and is expected to face Wollongong Local Court tomorrow.

The female passenger – aged 27 – was located a short time later and released pending further inquiries.
