Police are appealing for information after a house went up in flames at Warilla.
About 10.30pm on Saturday night, emergency services responded to reports of a O’Reilly St home on fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews arrived a short time later and extinguished the blaze. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the incident.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended, and their initial inquiries indicated the fire was deliberately lit.
Police established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.
On Monday, Southern Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar said an investigation was underway, with police appealing for information from the community that may assist with their inquiries.
“Police are keeping an open mind and we deem every fire suspicious until we can prove otherwise,” he said.
Officers are particularly hoping to speak with anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity during evening, particularly in the lead-up to the fire starting.
