Pedestrian dies after being hit by car at Oak Flats

A man in his 80s has sadly died after being hit by car on a busy road south of Wollongong.

A man in his 80s has died after he has hit by a car on a busy Oak Flats street this morning.

Emergency Services were called to the roundabout of Fisher St and Central Ave around 11am today, after receiving reports a man had been hit by a car.

Police have been told the elderly man was crossing the road, when he was struck by a Subaru Impreza.

Three NSW Ambulance crews responded, and found the man in a critical condition with serious head injuries.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman confirmed a chopper was tasked to fly the man, who is yet to be identified, to St George Hospital for treatment, but sadly he died at the scene and was taken to Wollongong Hospital.

The male driver of the Subaru was taken to hospital for mandatory testing and is assisting police with inquiries.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
