Nathan Raymond Lamont: ‘Big softie’ sentenced for harassing mum, punching cheesecake in Illawarra

A magistrate has thrown down a few home truths to an ex inmate who punched a cheesecake and called his mum a f****** dog, despite “probably being the only person” who loves him.

Australia's domestic violence crisis

An Illawarra man has been slapped with an intensive corrections order following an unsavoury altercation with his mother just months after being released from prison.

Nathan Raymond Lamont, 33, appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday following his foul-mouthed arrest on Wednesday afternoon.

Lamont was charged with stalking/intimidating with the intent to cause fear of physical harm and destroy or damage property with the tatted-up man urging Magistrate Robert Walker to “get on with it” and sentence him rather than adjourning the matter.

Court documents revealed Lamont had been living with his mother in Albion Park Rail since he had been released from prison three months ago.

His mother returned home from work on Wednesday about 3.40pm to Lamont demanding she hand over $29, stating she owed him money.

“No you actually owe me money,” the victim replied.

“You won‘t get any money, I won’t give you board,” Lamont said before his mother told him to leave because she ”didn’t want him there”.

Lamont became aggressive and punched a slice of cheesecake resting on the kitchen bench with the remanence of the treat splattering everywhere.

The son started abusing his mother, calling her “f****** dog” before an altercation resulting in a shelf in the fridge being broken.

The mother tried to flee her home, but she couldn‘t get away before he grabbed her work bag from her car.

She drove towards nearby Yallah where she called the police who attended her address shortly before 4.30pm.

The police knocked to several times to no response, before they called the mother who returned and unlocked the door.

The officers apprehended Lamont who called his mother a “f****** dog” and spat on the floor as he was escorted out of the house and conveyed to Lake Illawarra Command police station.

“You look like a big softie,” Magistrate Robert Walker opined as Lamont was brought up on the screen.

“But after I read this (the police facts) I might change my mind.”

The magistrate sentenced Lamont to a 12-month ICO and ordered he see a doctor to address his ongoing mental health issues.

“You‘re intimidating your mother, oh my God,” Magistrate Walker said.

“She‘s probably the only person who loves you and you’re calling her names.

“I am trying to look for something good [in your record], but I can‘t see anything. It’s a shocking record, you’ve got to wake up to yourself.”

After handing down his sentence, Magistrate Walker cautioned “Don‘t you get on the turps and rock up to your mum’s drunk”.

Lamont will now live with his brother at another address in the Illawarra with the ICO to expire in September, 2023.
