A young MMA fighter has been released on bail today, after allegedly taking part in a violent, alcohol-fuelled brawl between a group of young men dressed up as Santa Claus.

Isaac Hogan, 21, handed himself into police on Monday morning, after a man was knocked unconscious during a fight in Wollongong’s CBD during Wollongong’s annual Santa Pub Crawl last year.

The 21-year-old Fairy Meadow man was charged with a single count of affray before he was granted bail by Magistrate Michael Stoddart this afternoon.

In documents tendered to the court, police allege Hogan, together with an unknown man and woman, were walking past the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre around 2.30am on December 15, when a “physical confrontation” broke out between them, and another group of three men.

Police allege the woman in Hogan’s group tried to separate the men, before he and his unknown mate walked away.

Police allege the three men in the other group, Nathan O’Connor, his brother Nicholas O’Connor and friend Dillon Lee, ran at Hogan and his mates and engaged in another fight.

The incident allegedly took place following Wollongong’s annual Santa Pub Crawl.

“All males within both groups began throwing punches at one another which can only be described as a brawl,” court documents read.

During the incident, police allege Nathan O’Connor was punched in the head, causing him to fall to the ground, hit the pavement and lose consciousness.

In court documents, police allege the fighting stopped a short time later, with Hogan and his friends leaving the location while Nathan remained on the ground.

A bystander called police, who arrived to find him still on the pavement, requiring an ambulance.

In the documents, police allege the O’Connor brothers and Dillon all showed signs of a “physical altercation” and were heavily intoxicated, given the fact they had been at the pub crawl for much of the evening.

CCTV of the two brawls were allegedly captured on CCTV and the O’Connor brothers, as well as Dillon were also charged in relation to the incident.

On Monday, the court heard Hogan handed himself into police, after they had “some trouble” identifying him following the incident.

As part of his bail conditions, Hogan will have to report to police once per week.

He will return to court later this month.
