The sister of an Illawarra man killed in a horror crash in the state’s west has shared her grief, remembering him as “one of a kind”.
Wollongong man Michael Markocic was killed in single car crash in Grenfell – north of Bathurst – in the early hours of Saturday, April 26.
Mr Markocic was reportedly travelling on the Mid-Western Hwy when his car left the road, hit a power pole, and burst into flames.
He was the only person in the vehicle, which was later extinguished by the NSW Rural Fire Service.
His sister, Lisa Markocic, is remembering him as a “real, raw, and loyal soul”.
“He touched lives in ways that words can hardly describe,” she said.
“Despite the hardships life threw at him — from losing loved ones to facing struggles most people will never understand — Mick always took it on the chin, kept going, and never let it break his spirit.
“He didn’t deserve the pain he carried, but he faced it all with strength, humour, and love for the people around him.”
Ms Markocic has now launched a GoFundMe in a bid to help give her brother the farewell she says he deserves.
She said she wanted the service to reflect the “love” the community shared for Mr Markocic.
“Any support, big or small, would mean the world to our family during this heartbreaking time,” she said.
“Thank you for helping us honour Mick’s life.”
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
