Fresh details about an incident that allegedly saw a woman stab her partner multiple times before she was arrested in a dramatic stand-off at her apartment block have been revealed in court.

Jahnessa Jerome was arrested on October 6, 2020, after police allege she stabbed her 45-year-old boyfriend inside a unit at  Myuna Way in Mangerton.

Jerome faced Wollongong Local Court from a jail cell on Wednesday, where her defence lawyer Kirby Hill made an application for bail, which was denied by Magistrate Clair Girotto, who noted the seriousness of the alleged offence.

Police swarmed the Myuna Way apartment block around 4.30pm, after reports a man had been stabbed in the chest, arm and leg.

According to documents tendered to the court on Wednesday, Jerome and her boyfriend, who was protected from her under an Apprehended Domestic Order, had been together for 10 years when “without warning”, police allege she stabbed him in the upper thigh as he watched television.

According to the documents, the man got up off the couch and walked from the unit to a landing area and called out the window to a witness, who agreed to come and help him.

As the man waited for the witness to assist him, it’s alleged in the documents Jerome walked up behind him stabbing him twice more, once in the tricep and the second time “plunging” the knife under his rib cage from his right armpit.

“The final strike penetrated his lungs” court documents read.

The man then moved in the landing, where the witness found him and laid him on his side.

In the documenta, police allege the witness removed the man’s blood soaked jumper and applied pressure to the wound under his armpit.

Another person in the unit block contacted emergency services. Paramedics arrived sometime later and transported the man to hospital, while police alleg Jerome, armed with a metal bar and knife, hid in her apartment.

Police arrived and announced their presence, however it’s alleged Jerome moved to the balcony and closed the door.

After some negotiations with police outside the building, police allege Jerome indicated she was prepared to surrender, at which time officers moved inside the unit and arrested her.

Back at Wollongong Police station, it’s alleged in documents Jerome was “highly agitated and unpredictable” and punched and kicked the custody room when police tried to enter.

Jerome was charged with two counts of wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and breach apprehended domestic violence order.

Jerome, who has been in custody since her arrest, will remain on remand until her next court appearance.
