An Illawarra personal trainer charged with taking part in the supply of ice said “she just needs to be with her children” after she was refused bail in Wollongong Local Court on Friday.

Louise Kierce, 41, has pleaded not guilty to one charge of knowingly taking part in the supply of methylamphetamine.

The Cringila mother of four was arrested on Friday, July 10, after a search of her handbag allegedly revealed methylamphetamine hidden in the lining. Police estimate the drugs have a potential street value of $58,000.

Kierce applied for bail on July 13 but was refused. On Friday, defence counsel Justine Hall said the accused would live in a different address than the one given during Monday’s sitting. A $2000 surety was also offered to the court.

Magistrate Sally McLaughlin said there was no concerns raised about the woman’s risk of not appearing.

However, Magistrate McLaughlin found she was not satisfied in the change of address or surety.

During proceedings Kierce attempted to speak, but both the magistrate and her defence recommended she stop.

After bail was refused, Kierce, who was appearing via audiovisual link from Silverwater Women’s prison, said “I just need to be with my children”.

Kierce’s matter was adjourned to September 1.
