A Wollongong basketball coach and the son of a seasoned NBL coach was set to front five days of hearings regarding multiple child grooming charges this week before a last-minute backflip.
Jaydon Beveridge, the 24-year-old son of former Illawarra Hawks coach Rob Beveridge, appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to one count of inciting a person under 16 to commit an act of indecency and one count of intentionally inciting a child older than 10 and under 16 years to carry out a sexual act.
Police raided Beveridge‘s West Wollongong residence in June 2020 where they seized a number of electronic items for forensic examination before arresting him at Wollongong Command a month later.
The first offence occurred between April 2017 and November 2018 and involved a child who was 14 and 15 years old.
The second charge occurred over 11 months in 2019 and involved a 15-year-old child.
Beveridge will be sentenced in Wollongong Local Court on Friday, July 29 by which time a mental health assessment will be completed and presented to the magistrate.
Beveridge was supported by his father as Magistrate Robert Walker continued his bail under the conditions he report to police one a week, not go within 100 metres of Basketball Illawarra HQ, the Snakepit, or try to contact any witnesses or victims.
