Jamain Russell: 20yo allegedly threatens Coles staff with axe

A 20-year-old man has been denied bail after allegedly threatening multiple staff at an Illawarra Coles supermarket.

A Flinders man appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court today after allegedly wielding an axe in an Illawarra supermarket on Monday morning.

Just before 10am on Monday, April 4, Jamain Russell bought some items from Coles in Berkeley before allegedly abusing three employees – a man and two women.

Russell, 20, is accused of leaving the store before returning from his parked SUV with a metre-long axe and threatening the staff members again.

Police from Lake Illawarra Command commenced an investigation which led them to attend Murrah Cl address in Flinder where they arrested Russell and seized an axe.

He was charged with three counts of stalk/intimidate intent fear physical and being in custody of an offensive implement in a public place.

Russell appeared via video link where he didn’t enter a plea and applied for bail, which was denied.

He will face Wollongong Local Court again on Wednesday.
