Three goons involved in a drug-fuelled home invasion which saw a man tied to a chair, bashed and threatened with having his toes cut off with a shovel will soon learn their fate.

Jake Nikolas Hall, 26, Drazsic Wheatley, 21, and Brendan Parsons, 26, previously pleaded guilty to a slew of offences including a common charge of specially aggravated detaining in company with intent to obtain an advantage.

Hall also pleaded guilty to robbery armed with an offensive weapon, aggravated break and enter and being an accessory after the fact to an armed robbery while Wheatley’s charge sheet included a further two counts of armed robbery.

Documents previously tendered in court state the shocking offending took place on the night of November 8, 2021 when Hall and Wheatley – armed with hatchets – raided multiple small businesses across the Shellharbour region.

The documents indicate Parsons linked up with the pair later in the evening as they forced their way into an address in the southern Illawarra suburb of Tullimbar.

The unsuspecting victim – who did not know the trio – was punched in the head and thrown to the floor before being tied to a chair by shoelaces from his sneakers.

Documents state he was kicked and punched repeatedly with Parsons also holding a pair of fishing scissors to the man’s throat.

The three attackers walked into the bathroom where they loudly discussed what they were going to do with their captive, with one of the men suggesting “We’ll cut his toes off with a shovel”.

The goons ultimately trapped the victim in a laundry cupboard before trashing the room and making off with electronic items from the house.

The victim managed to break free before contacting his mother and the police who took photos of his injuries including a cut about his right eye and red marks on his wrists and neck.

Wheatley, Hall and Parsons were arrested at their respective homes about a week later.

In Wollongong District Court on Friday all three entered the witness box to give evidence with Wheatley – the only one who was bail – describing how he was at the “lowest point” of his life and drugs and grog had led him to not “think straight”.

Wheatley was bailed to complete rehabilitation in Queensland, however, he failed to do so with the court hearing he left the program to spend Christmas with his family because “it might be the last for a few years”.

Hall told the court his actions were “silly” while Parsons said he and his co-offenders showed a “lack of judgment and stupidity”.

All three admitted drug abuse was the main driver of their offending and they said they wanted to push past their dependence on illicit substances.

Parsons said he continued to use drugs while in custody and when asked by Judge Siobhan Herbert when he last took drugs he replied “Tuesday”.

The crown prosecutor lodged a detention application for Wheatley which was not opposed.

The men will be sentenced in May.
